Those that have been stalking my blog are aware of my recent class assignment to produce a self portrait without actually being in front of the camera. So after much debate, I ended up going with the self portrait featured on the right here. I am happy to report my teacher LOVED it. I had rave reviews and could finally breathe a sigh of relief (I tend to get really paranoid about these things). I think I have a phobia of being embarrassed in public because I am a wreck before any photo critiques. Now onwards and upwards…..
My next assignment is called “Worm”. You have to take a picture while lying on your stomach on the ground. When I read this in the course outline I have to admit I thought it would be a fun and easy assignment. Not so much. I spent this last weekend trying to get a decent shot while the citizens of Victoria thought a crazy woman was on the loose. Lying on your stomach in the middle of Bastion Square trying to take a picture of a smoking cigarette is not very becoming. Nor is sticking together chewed gum and trying to get a candid shot of it sticking to a runner’s shoe. I ended up going with one of my first shots of this daffodil in Beacon Hill Park. In a way it pisses me off that I used this shot because I wasted the better part of my weekend taking pictures that didn’t quite turn out as I’d hoped. You live, you learn (did I just quote Alanis Morissette?! – EWW!)
Off to stress out about the next critique……wish me luck!
