What Do I Wear For My Photo Shoot??!!
Ahhhhh the old question – what should I wear for my photo shoot? There have been many articles written on this and many, many opinions out there. Here is mine.
Wear clothes that are “YOU”: when you wear something that you feel comfortable in and truly reflects your style it is going to come across in your pictures. If you never wear heels then why would you choose to in your pictures? Find an outfit that makes you feel your best and go with that. Do you constantly get compliments when you wear a certain color? Wear that! Your confidence will come through.
Take into account your background: If you are having outdoor portraits taken at the beach then you want to go for a more natural look. If you are having pictures taken in a downtown location then dress it up a bit. For a picture to look natural you need to take into account each and every element and the backdrop is a huge part of this.
Choose a style: Large group portraits can be difficult unless you get everyone on the same page. If you are all wearing a different type of clothing then the pictures can turn out to be slightly jumbled with different types of styles and can end up looking a little “off”. Choose a particular style such as casual or dressy. It can also be a good idea for everyone to wear neutral colors with a pop of a chosen color to tie it all in. Be wary of patterns in a group setting. If one person is wearing checkers and the rest of the people in the picture are wearing solids then the eye is going to gravitate towards only the person wearing the pattern and they will stand out.
Mix and Match: You don’t have to wear only solids for a photo shoot. Patterns and colors look great and add dimension, interest and personality to a picture as long as they are done tastefully. If you need inspiration, then google some! Or helloooo, Pinterest! Think of decorating your home – the same principles apply when it comes to color pallets, layers and texture.
It’s all in the details: It’s true! Small details such as scarves, jewellery, cuff links, socks, shoes, hair accessories or whatever really make a picture stand out and give it that extra flair. Don’t be afraid to be bold!
Avoid letters or branding: The first thing the eye sees in a picture is letters. You want the first thing people see to be your face, so avoid anything with brand names or lettering.
